Introduction
Successful Implementation of the Course “Mastering ChatGPT and ChatGPT4 for Advanced Academic Writing: Prompt Engineering for Researchers” at Various Universities
The technological revolution in academic writing is underway, and leading universities are taking proactive steps to fully leverage artificial-intelligence (AI) tools that drive efficiency and quality in academic-content production. The Universidad de San Sebastián, Universidad Autónoma de Chile, and Universidad de Concepción have proven to be pioneers in this evolution by successfully implementing the course “Mastering ChatGPT and ChatGPT4 for Advanced Academic Writing: Prompt Engineering for Researchers” developed by WriteWise.
Implementation at the Universidad de San Sebastían (USS)
To promote academic integrity and the ethical use of emerging technologies, the Vice-Rectorate for Research and Doctoral Studies of the Universidad de San Sebastían (USS) took the initiative to organize this course. The demand for tools like ChatGPT, the artificial intelligence chatbot developed by OpenAI, in academic production has been on the rise. Aware of this phenomenon, the USS convened a group of 50 multidisciplinary researchers to participate in the theoretical-practical course led by Eduardo Fuentes, Research Director of WriteWise.
Dr. Fuentes, a specialist in academic writing and the use of “Large Language Models (LLMs),” introduced attendees to the potential and challenges of incorporating ChatGPT into the article-creation process. The course’s approach ranged from basic knowledge to advanced prompt engineering techniques, allowing academics to generate high-quality content efficiently and ethically.
Dr. Rodrigo Torres, an academic from the Valdivia campus, shared his experience on the matter:
“The course sparked my interest in giving AI a chance to support the writing process. Likewise, it provides a set of tools that will facilitate the transition to maximize its benefits.“
Implementation at the Universidad Autónoma de Chile
On the other hand, the Universidad Autónoma de Chile also followed this trend, gathering its academic community to participate in ChatGPT training sessions. Initially, a 2-hour webinar was implemented, but due to its success and growing demand, the University decided to delve deeper into the topic and practice, implementing the course “Mastering ChatGPT and ChatGPT4 for Advanced Academic Writing: Prompt Engineering for Researchers,” which spans 5 hours of content. Dr. Fuentes illustrated how to maximize the potential of AI for high-level research writing.
The focus on “instruction engineering” was a crucial point, highlighting the importance of creating effective instructions that guide AI models, like ChatGPT, towards desired outcomes. Additionally, the course focused on general applications of ChatGPT in academic writing and the ethical considerations inherent in its use. Participants left enthusiastic comments about the experience, highlighting the revelation this course brought to their understanding and approach to the ethical implementation of AI in their work.
The training sessions received praise from participants:
“This class was a turning point for me; I understood the tool’s great potential and clarified my doubts about ethics and responsibility in its use. It was a very revealing seminar.“
Implementation at the Universidad de Concepción
Likewise, the Universidad de Concepción culminated this series of successes by completing its second course, led by Dr. Eduardo Fuentes and managed by the Vice-Rectorate for Research and Development. Following the resounding success of the first call, the University decided to implement the course a second time, responding to demand and the enthusiastic reception from its academic community.
With an audience of nearly 500 researchers, this workshop provided essential knowledge on how to use ChatGPT to improve the quality of scientific publications and optimize publication opportunities in high-impact journals. Participants highlighted the importance of this tool in modern research and its potential to transform the way work is done and interaction in the digital world.
For his part, Dr. Ronald Mennickent Cid, Director of Research and Artistic Creation, noted that
“Artificial intelligence will change the way we carry out many day-to-day tasks and processes and also the way we relate to the digital world.“
The successful adoption of this course at multiple universities demonstrates that the ethical and effective use of ChatGPT is an urgent need in the academic community. The positive results obtained by these universities highlight how this tool can optimize laborious tasks, improve writing, and maintain integrity in content production.
As a leading company in the field, we are committed to continuing to offer similar learning opportunities in the future and collaborating with more academic institutions to enhance their research and promote excellence in academic writing with ethical responsibility.
